British fans of fish and chips could celebrate last year, when North Sea cod stocks bounced back enough to again be labelled as sustainable in that country. Yet as whole, Europe’s fisheries are far from healthy. Campaigners and scientists accuse EU politicians of each year giving in to industry lobbyists and setting unsustainable quotas. I went to the German cities of Kiel and Hamburg, to talk to some of the scientists whose job it is to advice EU lawmakers on sustainable fisheries. This is my report for Living Planet on Deutsche Welle.
